Cozy Pony Rescue

The Disposable Pony

“Every child wants a pony, and every pony wants a child.”

For a little while, it feels like a perfect story.

A child brushes their pony before school. Tiny boots run through the barn aisle. Ribbons are braided into manes. There are birthday photos, first rides, whispered secrets, and the kind of trust only animals can give so freely.

But children grow up.

And too often, the pony is left behind.

Some are sold because they are outgrown. Others because interests change, finances become difficult, or life simply moves on. At first, the pony may land safely in another home. Then another. And another.

New owners.

New names.

New routines.

New expectations.

Still, they keep trusting people.

Until one day, they end up with someone who sees them as nothing more than a quick profit.

Advertised as “kid-safe,” “bombproof,” or a “unicorn,” many of these ponies are carrying years of unseen trauma. The constant instability, rough handling, neglect, and fear slowly leave their mark.

By the time they reach the auction yard, the damage is often impossible to hide.

Their ribs show.

Their hooves hurt.

Their eyes look tired.

Some stand quietly in confusion, waiting for someone they can trust again.

For many, the auction ring is the last stop.

Loaded onto crowded trailers, they are shipped for hours across borders to slaughter facilities in Mexico or Canada. In 2025 alone, more than 24,000 horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules were exported for slaughter.

Behind every number is an animal that once trusted a human.

An animal that once mattered deeply to someone.

They are not disposable.

Rescue gives these ponies something they may have never truly had before: safety, consistency, kindness, and the chance to simply be cared for without fear.

Your donation helps provide:

  • Emergency rescue from auctions and neglect

  • Feed and daily care

  • Veterinary treatment and rehabilitation

  • Safe shelter and protection

  • A second chance at life

Even a small contribution can help save a pony from suffering and give them the future they deserve.

Because no pony should spend its life being passed from hand to hand until there is nothing left to give.

And no animal that trusted humans so completely should end its story in fear.
